AnneMitchellReid Fibre & Pastel
Biography
Anne Mitchell Reid was born in Glasgow Scotland. She studied Textile Design at the Scottish College of Textiles and received her BA and MFA in Interior Design and Woven Tapestry from Edinburgh College of Art, Scotland.
In 1976, she moved to the USA where she quickly established a reputation as a designer and tapestry weaver, and regularly taught and exhibited with the Philadelphia Guild of Hand-weavers.
In 1980 she returned to Scotland and established “Ruadh Workshops” a tapestry studio in the Highlands of Scotland. Between 1980 and 1989 she taught weaving skills to over 40 employees and apprentices. She designed award winning miniature tapestry collections and successfully marketed them worldwide. She taught more than 30 short courses and workshops in fiber arts and in managing a craft business in both Europe and the USA.
In 1989 she again emigrated with her family to the USA. With two sons to raise and a limited amount of time to weave, she returned to weaving tapestries for exhibition only, while pursuing careers in interior design and social services. In early 2001 she opened a new studio in Kimberton, PA and began to work also in pastel. Two years later she moved to Phoenixville, with “The Upstairs Studio Artists”. Nowadays she works from her studio in the Spring City Mills Studio, PA.
Her other accomplishments include performing, touring, and recording with many world-class orchestras, conductors and soloists including Muti, Bernstein, Barenboim, Pavarotti and Abbado, as a member of the Edinburgh International Festival Chorus. She presently sings with the Chamber Choir of St Peter’s Church in the Great Valley, Pennsylvania, USA and has recently returned from singing in Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, London and St Patrick's Cathedral in Dublin.
Anne Mitchell Reid has exhibited her work on both sides of the Atlantic for over 40 years.
